Freemasons Offer Sacred Space to the Market

29 September 2017

A slice of the Sunshine Coast’s history has hit the market with the Nambour Masonic Centre being offered for sale with vacant possession.

Jason O’Meara and Jerry O’Reilly of Savills Sunshine Coast have been appointed to the sale of the property located at 9 Blackall Terrace in Nambour on behalf of the owner.

The freestanding building has a total 400sq m tenancy split over two air conditioned levels, and sits on a total land area of 678sq m.

“Whilst the Masonic Centre is not a place of worship per se, we are seeing a continuing trend of churches and community centres being put on the market across Queensland,” Mr O’Meara said.

Since 1907 the ‘Masonic Temple’ has been occupied by the Freemasons, a non-religious organisation of men of ‘good character’ who share the same values of community, self-improvement, and non-discrimination.

It is predicted that the Centre will most likely be purchased by an owner occupier such as a not-for-profit organisation, health care or community group, as the property is zoned Community Facilities.

“The former temple was solidly built circa 1965, and the predominantly open plan format would suit the next user’s ability to adapt a suitable fitout,” Mr O’Meara said.

The building includes a commercial kitchen on the ground floor level, and features some on-site parking plus approximately 17 car parks on the street directly in front of the building which currently have no time restrictions.

The property has excellent signage opportunities, and is located within close proximity to local amenities including the railway station and the Nambour General Hospital.

“The Masonic Centre stands out to passing traffic, as the brightly coloured blue and yellow building can’t be missed,” Mr O’Meara said.

The Masonic Centre is being offered for sale through an Expressions of Interest campaign which will close at 11am on Thursday 12 October 2017.
