09 January 2018

International real estate advisor Savills has advised Ocado Technology, a division of the Ocado Group - the largest online supermarket in the world, on its expansion in Barcelona with the leasing of an office space for around 130 employees in the city’s CBD.

Savills originally advised Ocado Technology, a group subsidiary, in 2015 on securing temporary space in Barcelona. It has now advised them on securing a five year lease on 1,576 sq m of space at 20-30, Josep Tarradellas street.

Ocado Technology operates mainly in the United Kingdom and has development offices across Europe. This is its first foray into Spain

Clifford Bailey, head of Ocado Technology, Barcelona, comments: "Barcelona's vibrant ecosystem of software-minded communities and an international reputation for engineering excellence makes it one of the best places in the world for a tech company to start and grow a local office. At Ocado Technology, we are on a mission to develop the world-class software and systems that power the world's largest online grocery retailers. Our new office provides a relaxed, creative and friendly environment for our colleagues to build amazing software and solve some of the most challenging problems in retail tech."

Marie-Laure Fenet, Head of Office Agency, Savills Barcelona, comments:  “We are delighted to have advised Ocado on their expansion strategy in Barcelona. Their new location will provide them with a superb platform to attract and retain talent and further develop their business here in Spain.  Barcelona is an attractive tech city and a lot of companies are choosing to set up here, not only for its quality of life but also because of its excellent pool of talent.”
