New-To-Market Kilmore Property Offers Opportunity To Revive Former International School

14 June 2023

Located under an hour’s drive from Melbourne’s CBD, the vacant property at 32-42 White Street, Kilmore features complete P-12 education facilities previously accommodating approximately 450 students and 50 on-campus boarders.

The school’s improvements comprise dedicated science, music, art and drama classrooms, separate girl’s and boy’s dorm rooms with commercial kitchen and dining room, as well as a standalone primary school, library and IB Centre. For outdoor activity, an AFL field, soccer pitch, tennis courts and multipurpose basketball court are also included.

Up until as recently as last year, the premises operated as Colmont School (formerly the International Kilmore School), established in 1990 to provide international education for local students and those from abroad.

Speaking on the rare opportunity, Tanya Su, Associate Director at Savills, said, “Here is a chance to acquire a substantial landholding and breathe life back into a fully functional educational complex set to benefit from immense population growth in the surrounding area.”

“The property is located in central Kilmore, which is exceeding population growth forecasts as part of Melbourne’s booming Northern Growth Corridor. This high development area includes growth suburbs such as Wallan, Beveridge, Donnybrook, Mickleham, Wollert and Craigieburn, all of which are within a half hour’s drive of the property,” Ms Su continued.

Julian Heatherich, State Director at Savills said, “This school has a long history in Kilmore, with original buildings built in 1887 by the Marist Brothers of the Catholic Church.

“The mix of traditional and new buildings, including a state-of-the-art IB centre and primary school, makes for a unique opportunity to acquire an educational cornerstone of the Kilmore community.”

Mr Heatherich is no stranger to selling significant educational complexes like that at Kilmore, having been involved in the sale of the three Mowbray College campuses Caroline Springs, Brookside and Melton, as well as Acacia College in Mernda, almost a decade ago, following decisions to close the institutions due to lack of financial viability.

Both Mowbray College and Acacia College were purchased by other education providers and in the case of the Kilmore site, he notes, there’s been extremely strong support from the local community for the re-establishment of another school on the site.

“Given the property’s unique history as an international school educating students from Kilmore, surrounding suburbs and abroad, what we’re hearing at this early stage of the campaign is a preference for the return of students to another school onsite,” he added.

Expressions of Interest on 32-42 White Street, Kilmore close at 2pm on 12 July 2023.
