Old World Grandeur ‘Rises’ to meet New World Opulence

31 March 2019

With just a 15 minute walk to the heart of the Sydney CBD, a boutique apartment project is promising luxury, space and privacy draped in art deco grandeur.

Relevé – “to rise”, in French – is a seven storey, SJB designed building near Darling Harbour in Pyrmont.

Architect Charles Peters, associate director at SJB, says the project was designed with developer Eminent Property Australia to bring “a bit of elegance and glamour” back to CBD living.

“We wanted the building to be like an exclusive club – a private oasis with the immediacy of the surrounding city,” Peters says.

The materials and detailing pay special tribute to the rich architectural history of Pyrmont. “Delicate brickwork detailing is inspired by the heritage warehouses and wool stores – grand industrial buildings built with the craft and optimism of a growing city,” Peters says. “Beautiful ceramic tiles border the curved shopfront, referencing Pyrmont’s iconic pubs and hotels.”

Located at 67-69 Murray Street, each of the seven apartments occupies an entire floor. Apart from one two bedroom unit, all have three bedrooms. There is one car space per unit, in addition to generous balcony or terrace areas. A communal rooftop space combines lush gardens with a barbecue area, fire pit and city skyline views.

Interior designer Charlotte Wilson says privacy was a key driver of the design, from the raised sills to the orientation of the master suites.

“The interior concept was to carry the art deco style of the architecture within by integrating its straight and juxtaposing curved forms, its sense of rhythm and its simplicity,” she says.

Finishes include warm toned timber parquetry floor with a light toned stone like border, polished plaster, marble, brass accents and French style double doors.

The seven whole-floor apartments are for sale exclusively through Charles Caravousanos and Alex Hillston of Savills Australia and come with an option to amalgamate the top two floors into a double-storey, four bedroom penthouse covering 295 square metres internally.

According to Mr Caravousanos, “Pyrmont’s sophisticated village ambience is reminiscent of Europe with its deeply layered history, while the sparkling harbour views and lush landscaped parks imbue this locale with a distinctly Antipodean beauty.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to rise above it all and own a heavenly slice of inner-city paradise,” he said.
