Supercheap Auto Grows Into Expansive New Premises

27 April 2016

National automotive retailer, Supercheap Auto, has agreed terms on the lease of a new showroom facility at Dandenong in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs in a deal brokered by Savills Australia in conjunction with CBRE.

The 55-67 Frankston/Dandenong Road property, comprises a 1,061 square metre building within Dandenong’s Home Quarter centre which also includes national retailers The Good Guys, Amart Sports and Officeworks.

According to Savills Executive Showroom Retail & Industrial, Keith Kooloos, who brokered the deal with CBRE’s Chris Parry, the property was let on a ten year term. The rental was not disclosed but is believed to be in the high $100s a square metre net.

Mr Kooloos said Super Cheap Auto had required a property which offered room to accommodate significant recent and anticipated business growth with excellent main street exposure.

“The move follows momentous growth in the firm’s business which necessitated relocation to a property which provided around double the space of its existing Dandenong showroom,” Mr Kooloos said.

He said the property was also strategically positioned at the entry to the Berwick/Narre Warren and Cranbourne region, one of Melbourne’s key growth centres, which offered exceptional business growth potential.

“The location on the intersection with the Dandenong Bypass provides outstanding exposure while the existence of high profile neighbours in the Good Guys, Clark Rubber, and Officeworks, as well as the property’s prominence within the strip, were also important considerations,” Mr Kooloos said.

Chris Parry said that the result sees a strong finish to the Dandenong Home Quarter Centre which is dominated by national retailers. With competing vacancy on the Frankston Dandenong Road strip, it highlights that quality retailers are looking for quality retail spaces to showcase their brand.

The concentration of vacancy is in B & C Grade centres with retailers flocking towards quality and showing that they are prepared to pay a premium to secure retail space which is modern, clean and convenient for their customers.

The 12,000 square metre Home Quarter bulky goods centre was developed on the former Kimberly Clark factory site by Fantastic Property Holdings in 2012.
