Sankofa Montessori Establishes Charter School in Forest Park

FOREST PARK, Georgia (July 11, 2023) – Savills oversaw the real estate strategy for Sankofa Montessori, a tuition-free public Montessori school serving grades K-6 in Forest Park. Sankofa secured a 6.2-acre property located at 5881 Phillips Drive that boasts 52,000 square feet of space across multiple buildings.

Savills Managing Director Matthew Barnes and Senior Managing Director Lesa Nickelson French oversaw the real estate plan for Sankofa.

“Sankofa Montessori was one of two schools to be granted a charter by the State Charter School Commission of Georgia in 2022,” said Barnes. “As the only tuition free public Montessori school in Metro Atlanta, it was important for school founder Sarah Harvey to find a centrally located facility that could be renovated in time for the 2023-2024 school year. We identified an opportunity on Phillips Drive that offered the best in terms of acreage, building reuse, and location. The property will allow Sankofa to establish its presence in Forest Park and begin the open enrollment process for families in the community.”

The property includes existing infrastructure including multiple buildings, a gymnasium, and large outdoor space that can be reused and upgraded. The facility will be renovated in two phases to provide building improvement, additional classrooms, and offices. Sankofa is planning a summer 2023 opening.
