The Humane Society of the United States Sells 67,000 SF Office Building

02 May 2023

WASHINGTON (May 2, 2023) – Savills announced today that the firm represented the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) in the recent sale of the non-profit organization’s 67,808-square-foot office building in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Located at 700 Professional Drive, the 8.9-acre site was formerly owned and occupied by the HSUS and previously served as the organization’s operations center.

“The Savills team marketed 700 Professional Drive to an array of potential purchasers, as the building’s location within Maryland’s I-270 life sciences corridor made it attractive to end users and developers alike. Ultimately, we identified a purchaser amidst a challenging capital markets environment, who plans to reuse the existing building and whose offer aligned with the goals of the HSUS, including a market price and quick close,”  said Parker Lange, senior managing director at Savills.

Lange led the transaction alongside Savills Vernon Knarr, Art Greenberg, Gary Stein, and Jon Glass.

“The market intelligence and experience the Savills team provided helped inform and affirm our decision to market the building and ultimately identify an appropriate buyer for our long-time property,” said William H. Hall, chief financial officer for the HSUS.

The buyer is an affiliate of the WorldShine Group, a senior care management company based in Germantown, Maryland.

The sale comes after members of the Savills Capital Markets team represented the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) in the government contractor’s recent development site sale
