Étoile Academy Charter School Expands in Southwest Houston

HOUSTON (April 3, 2023) – Savills initiated a new real estate strategy on behalf of Étoile Academy, a tuition-free public charter school. Étoile will expand its footprint at its original location at 6648 Hornwood Drive, bringing its new total to 53,551 square feet. Additionally, Étoile acquired a 45,000-square-foot property at 9754 Bissonnet Street that will become its second campus.

“Étoile has been expanding steadily at its original location to coincide with its growing enrollment,” said Savills Senior Managing Director Lesa Nickelson French, who represented Étoile in its real estate plan. “Founder Kayleigh Colombero and her team have done an excellent job of recruiting students and she sought a second location for the school to open a new campus near its current neighborhood. We canvassed the market and discovered a former church and school within four miles of Étoile’s existing location that it can repurpose to fit its needs. The second campus will continue Étoile’s mission of supporting underserved communities in Southwest Houston and I’m proud to support Kayleigh’s entrepreneurial vision.”

The Bissonnet Street property is set on five acres and resides in the Gulfton and Sharpstown communities that Étoile serves. The property also features existing infrastructure that Étoile can leverage including classrooms, a gymnasium, and an auditorium. Construction is to be completed in July, with an opening date in August.

“The Bissonnet area is a natural next step for the evolution of Étoile,” said school founder Kayleigh Colombero. “We are excited to enter the neighborhood and modify the current building to fit our students’ needs. We are planning to open this August with kindergarten and first, fifth, and sixth grades before expanding to kindergarten through eighth grade. We hope to eventually serve 800 to 900 students at Étoile’s new campus.”

Étoile Academy Charter School was founded in 2018 by Colombero, who identified a need for a charter school in the Gulfton and Sharpstown neighborhoods of Southwest Houston.
