Savills Studley Secures First Expansion for RNG in Chicago

14 September 2017

Savills Studley, the leading commercial real estate firm specializing in tenant representation, announced that it has completed a 26,502-square-foot lease on behalf of River North Gym (RNG) at 600 West Chicago Avenue (600 West). This location will serve as RNG’s first expansion and will complement the company’s flagship club within the Merchandise Mart.

“RNG is a fast-growing Chicago business known for the high quality user experience it offers customers and its value as an amenity within the Merchandise Mart,” said Savills Studley Assistant Director Patrick Brady, who represented RNG in this transaction. “In consideration of RNG’s reputation in Chicago and the company’s vision for a unique millennial-focused user experience at this location, we were able to negotiate an extremely favorable lease for our client and beat out larger national chains seeking to occupy this premium space.”

Founded in 2010, RNG offers cutting-edge group fitness classes and individualized and small group personal training. RNG members enjoy access to top-of-the-line fitness equipment and fully-appointed locker rooms. As a result of the atmosphere and experience RNG offers members, the company was named “Business of the Year” by the River North Business Association in 2013.

“We are excited to bring a revitalized and progressive approach to the fitness club experience at 600 West, in addition to the River West, Near North Side, Old Town and Lincoln Park communities close to this location,” said Bernie LeCocq, owner of the River North Gym. “Once complete, the updated space will emphasize the natural light and incredible river views unique to this location, and feature new equipment and a variety of classes similar to boutique fitness providers but within a full-service gym.”

Originally built along the Chicago River as a 1.25 million-square-foot warehouse in 1906, 600 West is now home to several of the city’s most innovative and iconic companies. As part of the long term lease negotiated by Savills Studley, the client will receive signage rights and access to the recently revitalized Chicago Riverwalk, as well as the building’s roof deck for classes. As RNG will occupy space at 600 West previously held by a fitness club, the company will require minimal build out costs other than millennial-focused renovations to complement the tenant make-up of the building and community demand.
